questions to consider- freedom (1)
The following questions and reflections are based around the teaching brought on Sunday 6th September. It is helpful to either view the service, which you can do here, or read the notes on the teaching, available on this blog here, before reflecting on the notes below
READ John 8:31-36
Have you ever stopped and thought of freedom and slavery as it relates to your life?
V34 Jesus said, ‘Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.’
If you have never thought about this before in your life, think about your life and the sin in it, present or past – how did it enslave you? What were the effects on your life?
V36 ‘If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed!’
Reflect on what ways Jesus has set you free – perhaps share your reflections on this with someone else. Perhaps ask someone else what freedom they have known through Jesus. Maybe write down your reflections on being set free so you can come back to them.
Buying your freedom cost Jesus his life and more than that.
READ Isaiah 52:13-53:12
Reading through the passage, in what ways do you see Jesus enabling and buying your freedom, so you no longer have to be in slavery? Ask the Holy Spirit to give you fresh revelation of the wonder of what Jesus has done for you.
Take time to respond in praise and thanksgiving to God for all that he has done for us through Jesus. Perhaps share your wonder with someone else and join together in brining praise to God. You may like to write a prayer or song of praise, of thanksgiving, celebrating the wonder of the freedom that God has bought for you in Jesus.
